An Indian Breakfast

I went to a fund-raising breakfast food sale (how’s that for a mouthful) this past week, and someone was selling an Indian breakfast in addition to the regular muffins, croissants, and bagels. I tried it. There was poori (a deep-fried fluffy Indian bread); chole (chick peas with tomatoes – it’s like chana masala which I love); halwa which is made from wheat flour for sweetnees; kachumber salad (cucumber salad) for a kick of heat.

It was a bit heavy for me especially for breakfast, but it was good. Come to think of it, I’m sure it’s as healthy as bacon with potato hash and toast with butter. My Indian friend says he just eats this type of breakfast only twice a year because it’s too rich. I think the halwa has ghee (clarified butter) and the poori is deep-fried making the whole dish rich. But try it at least once—it’s good.
