Machu Picchu
One of the most amazing places in the world is Machu Picchu. How the Incas constructed this whole complex on top of a mountain with primitive tools is mind-boggling.
Hiram Bingham is known to have “discovered” Machu Picchu. Apparently, Hiram paid 3 soles (about $1 USD) to a local farmer to lead him to the ruins of Machu Picchu. Talk about a bargain.
Aguas Calientes is the small town at the base of Machu Picchu. It is said that 90% of the town’s population at any given time are tourists. Everything is geared towards tourism: the stores, restaurants, internet places, and hotels along the train track.
