Mombacho Volcano & Canopy Tour
I’ll be posting a series of food and travel pictures from Nicaragua in the next couple of weeks.
We flew into Managua and went directly to Granada—one of the “must sees” in Nicaragua. Granada is located on the shores of Lake Nicaragua (Cocibolca) and at the base of the Mombacho Volcano.
We set out too early for our Mombacho Volcano Tour (we wanted to be on the first truck up the volcano at 8:30am). When we got to the summit, we couldn’t see the views. Too much clouds and fog. So instead, we went for the Mombacho Canopy Tour, which is halfway down the volcano. That was a blast! I’m afraid of heights. I don’t do well with them; but I thought it would be fun to try anyways. It’s really very safe.
Francisco and his team at the Mombacho Canopy Tours were fantastic. You have a training run where you slide along the zip line but you’re probably 6 inches from the ground. After that, you do your first real run. It was not scary. There are 15 platforms in all. You can zip along as Superman, upside down if you like. They even took my p&s digital camera (it’s a Ricoh GX8) and took really cool videos.
